Training At The Icelandic Horse Farm

We use TTEAM Training Methods with our horses at The Icelandic Horse Farm, which greatly enhances the horse's abilities to adapt to a lot of different situations. Linda Tellington-Jones, the founder of TTEAM is Robyn's sister and Robyn is the only other teacher of Instructors in the TTEAM and TTOUCH work. This takes her traveling throughout the world, just in the past 2 months she was in Germany, England and Australia, Hawaii is next on her itinerary.

Looking at physical comfort and balance are key factors in TTEAM. Icelandics are asked to tolt with a higher head carriage and a common mistake some trainers make is getting the tolt by simply pulling the head up, which causes the horse's back to drop, it's withers to get jammed and discourages a soft and for the horse comfortable gait. By applying the TTOUCH on the horses body, raising the horse's back and teaching him how to properly carry himself in balance and without tension we find our horses not only improve their gaits, but are also easier to tolt for people inexperienced with gaited horses.

The ground exercises, where the horse is lead over a variety of challenging obstacles, teach the horses to carry themselves in different postures, to change their balance and in the case of a less confident animal he will learn to stop, breathe and think when encountering a frightening object, rather than freeze or bolt. In the summer we offer weeklong as well as weekend trainings where people from North America as well as Europe spend a fun filled week learning about the Icelandics horses, riding them and putting the TTEAM work to practice.
